Here’s the second stage of this repair. The plate has been sprayed with gold paint and clear lacquer has been sprayed over that. Notice the gold overspray on the newspaper.

Here’s the first of three pictures showing the steps for spraying a piano plate (or harp) with the strings still on. The newspaper and blue tape protect the strings.

Randy Johnson, a great piano tech and tuner in Hackettstown sent me this picture entitled: Now THAT’S Clamping! He’s preaching to the choir! You can never have enough clamps… This is a picture of a pin block. That’s a laminated block of wood in a piano which holds the tuning pins, which hold the strings. …
